Lollypop Farm Cat of the Week, 28 August

Opal is a 4-year-old female cat who was brought to Lollypop Farm because her owner was moving. She is a sweet, friendly girl who likes being petted and loves to cat-nap. Dogs aren’t her favorite, so she would prefer a canine-free home. Right now Opal is living in one of the shelter’s catteries and enjoying living together with other felines — but she would much rather go home with you!
Volunteer, II
Remember last week’s mystery volunteer? Here are some of its fruit nearer maturity-and recognisability. Looks like acorn squash. Which I love. Pumpkin would be fine, too, of course.
And, below, a stunning sunset.
Just because.

Lollypop Pet of the Week, 21 Aug & Back to School
Trudi is a 3-year-old female cat who was brought to Lollypop Farm because her owner had too many pets. Trudi gets along with other cats and with dogs, too. This sweet girl keeps getting overlooked in favor of the many kittens up for adoption at Lollypop Farm, so she hopes that someone picks her very soon!

“BACK-TO-SCHOOL” CAT ADOPTION SPECIAL
Lollypop Farm is offering a “Back-to-School” Cat Adoption Special on Friday, August 22nd, and Saturday, August 23rd. Cats can be adopted for just $50, and adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate to Target, along with “school supplies” for their kitty: food, toys, a collar and a snuggly blanket for naptime! Kittens four months old and younger can be adopted for $75. The cat adoption special is being offered as Lollypop Farm is dealing with the continued influx of unwanted cats and litters of kittens.
The reduced adoption fee includes the same year-round benefits, plus extra gifts for the new feline in the family:

• Spaying or neutering
• Feline leukemia testing
• Vaccinations and parasite treatment
• Certificate for a free health exam
• A 30-day gift of Pet Health Insurance
• Microchipping
• Advantage flea control treatment
• Free behavior and training advice
• “Back-to-School” kit including: $25 gift certificate to Target (limit one per household; 60 available), a kitty collar, a 5 lb. bag of Science Diet cat food, handmade toys and a knitted kitty blanket.
The “Back-to-School” Cat Adoption Special is available at both Lollypop Farm in Fairport and at PetSmart, 790 Jefferson Road in Henrietta. The regular adoption application and approval process applies.
Volunteerism is Alive & Well &…
Living in my sheet compost! I had spotted plenty of greenlings all summer, and plucked out most. Then grew lax for a few weeks and look what happened! I swear it grew from a weakling shoot to this overnight. It is fairly contained here in the image taken a week ago:
Yes, you see tomatoes too. They’ve blossomed well but I only spotted a few small fruits. There’s still time and the tomato is still blooming. That’s tarragon you see in the herb pot. The basil is kind of hidden under giant leaves.
****************************************************************************************************************
The Plant now engulfs everything around it. I moved the herb pot yesterday, it didn’t even show under those huge leaves. The basil growing in that pot has great long skinny stems and leaves only at the very top. Poor little basil. Here, look at the blossoms and the beautiful network of plumbing or whatever you want to call it running along the garden’s mulch.

Today I found a nicely shaped fruit on it. I still have no idea what it is-squash or melon, perhaps someone who intentionally grows either can tell me. I don’t care which it is, I’ll eat whatever I get! Who knew growing food could be so effortless?
Lollypop Farm Pet of the Week, 14 August
Alistair
Breed Domestic Shorthair/Mix
Color Grey
Color Pattern
Age 4 years / 1 month
Sex Male
ID 5414583
Alistair is a 4-year-old male cat. He was brought to Lollypop Farm because his previous owner could no longer care for him. This debonair gray-and-white gentleman has lived with cats and dogs in the past and got along well with both. He’s a calm, laid back cat, but one thing he’s excited about is finding a new home.
Alistair was formerly known as Trouble, so when you click on the link and see Trouble instead of Alistair, it’s the same cat. Okay?
UPDATE: Roo is still available.
A Junk Mail Whine, & a Letter to the Junk Mailer
At least twice each week I receive a junk mail from a certain union organisation with a big beef against a certain Big Box Store. These mails are disguised to look like thanks notes or other personal notes, in pretty pastel envelopes. Inside are cards designed to misrepresent facts. So, I write back:
Dear Union-based Organisation that hates Big Box Store:
Please take me off your junk mail list.
You send me two or three junk mails each week, hidden in pretty pastel envelopes. The enclosed cards contain a few words decrying some common retail industry practice or other. Why you chose to target this one Big Box Store led me to investigate.
I checked your provided web-site, which is an ugly mess of misrepresentation. I realise that the average recipient of your vitriol is neither interested in, nor capable of, researching your presentation to compare it with fact. I am not your average recipient. It deeply offends me that you would assume I am.
I cannot abide sandbox politics. I don’t watch political ads for the same reason. I no longer invite “religious” door-knockers in for the same reason. You’re just out to vent toxic rubbish about someone whose POV you don’t like. Don’t do it here. You certainly won’t interest me with your tactics.
In fact, your tactics are merely vexing. The more you rail against the Big Box Store, the more likely I am to avoid all that represents you and your lowbrow attempts to force me to your narrow stupidity. I’d rather be Big Box Store’s consumer than your supporter. Is your aim actually to convince me to pursue that which you claim to hate?
Is the whole problem based on your failure to force Big Box Store to unionise? Sour grapes. Get over it. Find someone else to organise.
And take me off your junk mail list.
Sincerely,
Your Junk Mail Recipient
Now I have to find a way to deal with the influx of this vile trash. I doubt it’s safe to compost.

Roo is an 8-year-old male cat who is a Siamese mix. A staff favorite, he is a sweet, mellow feline who loves to cuddle with people. Roo gets along well with other cats, too, but he isn’t a big fan of dogs, so this handsome, blue-eyed charmer needs to go to a canine-free home.
Update: Sinder has been adopted! Long & happy life to you and your new family!
